Between Kenna’s surgery and the regular happenings going on it is safe to assume….my life is normal.By normal I mean totally upside down crazy…but hey that’s how we like it here! So I present you with a Wednesday Mash Up of our life!
Kenna did fine with the surgery…now for the next 6 weeks in casts. She’s grounded pretty much to the couch until May 1st.
Even with having a friend come stay with us to help out and her other friend over constantly she has hit the “I’M SO BORED” stage. Poor girl has another week with the soft casts on.
She is in great spirits though!
Spring’s warmer weather has gotten us all acting a little bit more hyper. This was my entertainment the other night while making dinner. Excuse the bumpiness I was stirring and videotaping at the same time!
And of course we have had our nighttime ritual of putting the chicks and ducks to bed. We’re all slowly getting the hang of it…err umm well some of us are. Hey at least the neighbor kids and friends think it’s fun,Nathaniel not so much.
” Seriously mom….I don’t even know these people you call siblings.”
And THAT is how a Wednesday Mashup is done at our house!
WOoohoo it’s a week until Spring Break! Oh wait we don’t really do Spring Break. Well we kinda do. My idea of Spring Break is adding an 8th child for a couple of days then giving away one of my kiddos. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Celebrity Wife Swap…..NAH.
Today Stasha over at The Good Life has a Monday Listicles of 10 things we’re looking forward to in Spring! Spring definitely came in true Spring like fashion last week. Snowing one minute, sunshine, than rain and sleet. Hopefully,it’s evening out a bit though, because Casa La Crazy is getting even crazier over here with a few additions!
10 Reasons I’m Excited About Spring
1. Babies….yes lots and lots of babies have flooded our house!!!!
Here a duck there a chick…oh yes just call me Old McDonald.
Of course these guys are growing up way too fast to and just making me sad as well.
2. SUNSHINE!!!!! after months of the sun being MIA it is finally peeking it’s sweet little head out and making me VERY HAPPY!!!
3. The fact that even though our lease is up this week we do not have to move as previously thought and get to keep living here! WOOHOO no moving for us.
4.Driving the new mommy van with my windows down and this song playing:
5. Adrienne’s first Easter as well as her being dedicated on that day!
6. Time our shooting hoops. Oh yes we got a new basketball hoop and let me tell you this…momma’s not too bad!
7. Planting our garden….I don’t know if I’m so much looking forward to it as I suck at gardening, but the girls are looking forward to it so I will give it my best shot!
8.My mom coming to visit for my cousins college graduation. Yup my mommy is coming!
9.The bunnies in our back yard multiplying yet again and free ranging with the rest of the animals.
10 And finally….
Showing Adrienne outside things for the first time like the flowers, feeling the sunshine, and smelling the fresh cut lawn!
My poor poor kids…is what I think on most days I mean they do have to deal with me day in and day out. I can be strict I can be off the wall with new ideas that they know will only last a day at most, then there are some days when it seems like EVERYONE is in my bubble!
Then there are the days that this momma has been up since 4:30 am and is feeling a little loopy while trying to breast feed a child and get a gourmet dinner of fish sticks, french fries, and pickles and olives out. Why is it out of the easiest meals I’ve “made” this week it took me the longest to get it to the table?
Maybe it was because the day before I had been suffering from a SERIOUS case of the grumpies….I mean serious people. No amount of coffee in the world seemed to help, not even topped with whipped cream. No cutest baby smiles….no I love yous….not even my kids doing their school work compliantly could pull me out of that stupid funk.
So yesterday as the “dinner rush” was about to begin and my loopiness from being awake so long began to take affect,I decided we needed music. Not just any music but the kind that makes you wanna jump(Sing it with me y’all Jump Jump!),dance, and croon right along. We needed 80’s and 90’s boy band music! Thank God for Pandora because within minutes we were singing (ok I was doing most of the singing) and dancing along to New Kids On The Block,Bel Biv Devoe,Nsync,Backstreet Boys, and even a little Michael.
I rotated kids in and out of the kitchen to help throw the fish sticks on a sheet or in the oven, while others practiced their smooth dance moves in the living room. I use the word smooth loosely have you ever seen a room full of 7-10 year olds trying to imitate boy band moves?I wish I would’ve taken some video.
AND THE MUSIC????? Well it was up pretty loud.
Thank God Squishy likes music. Oh and the neighbor girl ya know Kenna’s best friend? She sat staring at us like we were all nuts for the most part. I often wonder why she loves coming over so much, (she has become a permanent fixture in our house and is welcomed happily.) then I realize it’s probably like getting to go to the circus for free.
WELCOME TO CASA LA CRAZY…..
Where you may come in with the grumpies but you will never ever leave without a smile!
Some of the earliest memories in my life revolve around music. I can remember being with my Grandpa Bartlett and him singing “5’2 eyes of blue” or even “oh Susannah” I remember Christmas’s with Grandma Bartlett playing the Organ or accordion and all of us singing Christmas Carols. Then as the grandkids got older we all brought our musical instruments to play with her.
I remember car rides with my parents and my dad singing “You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille” although at that time I thought the next line was 400 children and a crop with no field. Instead of 4 hungry children. I remember thinkin…umm that’s a lot of kids. I remember ABBA and Neil Diamond and Foreigner and my mom standing in line in the rain to get tickets for Neil Diamond.
I can recall singing “Satin Doll” at music camp one year and falling in love with some of the Broadway hits. Although I also remember doing a dance routine to Push It by Salt N Peppa in the same year…
In 6th grade a friend and me got dropped off in downtown Spokane for a Great White Concert.Yes 6th grade was my first hair band concert and I remember just being surrounded by a bunch of pot heads but because we were small the “adults” all pushed us towards the front. I still tell my mom ” I cannot even believe you let me go then”
I will admit to being a HUGE New Kids On The Block fan. My parents drove me and 5 other girls 5 hours to Seattle on a school night just to see them in concert.Only to turn around when it was done and head right back home.
I’ve played piano and percussion. I’ve gotten in trouble from my parents for blaring my music too loud.In fact I just had to ask dad if he could keep an eye out for a new stereo because mine is acting funny. I’m sure he’s thinking it’s because I may have turned it up too loud one too many times.
Music feeds my soul. No matter what mood I’m in I can usually find a song to identify with. There is not a day that goes by that some kind of music is played in my household.
So this year for homeschool we’re going to look at all different genres of music. Not only classical, opera, jazz, blues, country but well you can bet I’m throwing in The Beatles,The Rat Pack,Green Day, Foo Fighters,80’s pop(Debbie Gibson anyone?),even a little Eminem. Why?
Because I want my kids to be exposed to all sorts of music. I want them to be able to find the music that feeds their soul. I want them to (hopefully) feel the same way about music as I do. I want them to have an open mind.I want them to know what was going on at that time not only with music but also in the world and how it shaped music.
This should be a very fun school year.
WHAT a weekend! Definitely one of those weekends I’ll look back on when I’m on my death bed and think “I had a very blessed life!” Ok how’s that for a piece of morbid on a Monday morning for you?I’m sure you get what I’m saying though.
First off I got to meet a dear friend of mine on Saturday. Not only did I get to meet her but she let me cook for her as well. Ok I don’t know if muffins and salad are considered cooking but none the less they were umm yummmmmm!!!Perfect for the hot day we had.More about that in a minute first a bit more about our visit.
Can you believe that neither one of us whipped out our camera the whole visit? We were too busy talking each other’s ears off. The kids were playing with her adorable puppy Mercy and yeah no cameras came out, what a pity. Hey Denise I call a do over!
Let me just say this: There is something very surreal about meeting someone who has read one of your blogs for the last 3 and a half years or so. Even though I had never met her face to face she knew every intimate detail of my life and I, hers. There was no “well see about two years ago this happened which lead this to happening” and then there were even times I’d giggle and think “oh wow she knows THAT about me!” Yes, a very surreal experience indeed.
So what did I make for us to eat?Remember I said I must make a coffee cake?Ehh well I decided muffins sounded better so I hopped on over to Joy The Baker and searched blueberry muffins.Joy did not fail me and had a wonderful recipe for Blueberry muffins that my kids were chompin at the bit for. They’re not just blueberry muffins they’re blueberry oatmeal applesauce muffins.
Normally I would write out the recipe for you but umm well this is gonna be a long post anyways. Try them i swear you’ll never make another blueberry muffin…EVER!!!!
I also pulled the Devil Egg Salad off of the Pioneer Woman’s website that she had posted from Pam Anderson. When I saw this salad last week I drooled over it. The fact that another woman was coming to visit gave me the perfect opportunity to try it out! Again the kids were trying to get their greedy little hands on the deviled eggs, the salad, not so much!
I did make a couple of tweaks to it of my own and will post what I did later in the week but for now go check out the recipe!
And while you’re at it check out
Pam Anderson’s cookbook may be the next one on my “Gimme Gimme” list.
Yesterday we had every intention of going to a friend’s church. That is till at 9:30 I still had 3 of the 4 kids asleep! This NEVER happens in this house! So we did the next best thing to church we watched The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Yea little did I know it would turn me into a blubbering mess! Seriously I’ve seen this movie at least half a dozen times before but well something about it yesterday turned me all wussy and cryey(ok totally a word I just made up) After that I decided to try and finish hanging up the pictures and stuff in the living room. Yeah ask me how far I got along? Not very because I had a total Wendy moment.(I know you all have been waiting for one of those ever since you read my About Me lol)
My neighbor had given me a big white shelf that I decided would be perfect on one wall I have. I got it hung up,have I mentioned I SUCK at hanging pictures? True Story I do. In fact if you ever come to my house and notice my pictures aren’t level…please just smile and tell me what lovely pictures I have. It’s a constant source of frustration. Where was I?Oh yeah the shelf. Ok I got the shelf hung up and was feeling pretty proud of myself. I set our family picture on it I had taken before we left Arizona. I stepped back admired it for about 5 seconds before it came crashing down.
I caught the picture and ducked to save myself from the shelf. Pheww crisis averted, the picture was safe.So I rehung the shelf made sure it was secure and set the picture back on it. AGAIN it came crashing down. ONLY this time for whatever reason I reached for the shelf not the picture. By the time I realized what I had done, the frame laid on the ground in a bunch of pieces.
Now before this I was going to make a yummy egg and shrimp salad sandwich for dinner….before this I was going to finish off the living room…before this I was going to conquer the world! After this…we had Eggos for dinner and played in the backyard, and watched Sherlock Holmes.(Umm yeah nothing like a hot maniacle Robert Downey Jr playing Sherlock Holmes to get you in a better mood)
So I realized a few things about myself this weekend
- I will ALWAYS suck at hanging pictures but hey it’s part of what makes me….ME!
- Umm I may have discovered that I secretly LOVE Michael Buble
- That if you’re hanging pictures while listening to music AND you’re an ex drummer you may just find yourself hitting the nail in time to the music.
- This may lead to WHY you suck at hanging pictures
- I’m becoming my mother and crying at movies that really should I be crying at?
- Robert Downey Jr still has the same affect on me that he did when I was a teenager(drooling heart palpitations)
- My coolness factor has gone down…way down for admitting I like Michael Buble and that I cried at that movie.
- I have gone through 12 dozen eggs this month…it may be time to get some chickens.
- I have also gone through about 40 pounds of flour
- And lastly, my neighbor MAY just be trying to kill me by giving me this shelf…ok probably not because then I couldn’t take over my baked goodies to her
Did I mention that my neighbor also let me borrow a bunch of her grandmother’s recipes? Oh yes this could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. As long as she doesn’t give me anymore shelves.
